Most people roof their homes with traditional asphalt shingles. In fact, many people don’t even consider anything else, assuming that asphalt is standard. However, there are many reasons you should consider choosing metal roofing instead.


Metal roofs last significantly longer than asphalt roofs. They can last over 50 years, which means it may be the only time you ever have to roof your home in your lifetime. They can withstand many different weather conditions that asphalt may struggle with, and they have “Class A” fire status, meaning they are highly unlikely to burn up in a fire. They are one of the most fire-resistant roofs available, and they are non-combustible.

 

Metal roofs are surprisingly lightweight compared to asphalt. Because of this, they can be applied directly on top of your asphalt roof, saving you money on removing the old roofing and saving the environment by reducing waste and avoiding filling up the landfill. Metal roofing also saves you money on utility bills. Metal roofs have been given the “Initial Solar Reflectivity” rating, or “IR” rating. Basically, that means they reflect light away from your home, keeping your home cooler when the weather is hot and reducing your energy bills.

 

Metal roofs also have a nice look. On top of all of the other perks, a metal roof can look much more attractive than an asphalt roof. There are even different shades of metal roofs, though the lighter colors may save you even more money on utilities and are often even “Energy Star Approved.”

 

Metal roofing has significant benefits over other types of roofing. You can save money and have a roof that lasts a very long time, saving you the time, energy, and stress of repeatedly replacing your roof. Your attractive and money-saving roof can even increase the value of your home. When considering a new roof, a metal roof is definitely one you want to look at.

And with a new website comes a reintroduction to us here at GT Donaghue Construction! For those not familiar with us, GT Donaghue Construction & Metal Roofing, LLC (formerly Donaghue Construction) has been in business for almost 40 years working across New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and even parts of New York bringing quality craftsmanship and decades of experience to all the projects we complete. Gerry Donaghue, our founder, started this business out of his house formerly in Nashua, NH and has sustained a quality business over the years through hard work and resilience. We have navigated fluctuations in the industry across the years with some years only allowing for a few members on our crew and some calling for multiple crews and larger partnerships. The one thing that hasn’t changed? Gerry’s commitment to high standard work and building relationships with the folks he serves. A family owned business, his daughter Ashley supports him on his admin team (after she did her time driving the dump truck for him as a teenager!), his brother Andrew works on the job site, and his wife Pat has always been there to help when needed-you can sometimes see her in the office or even at a home show! Gerry has a wealth and variety of experience ranging from ground up new builds, additions and interior remodels, deck installations, siding replacements and installations, and of course his favorite-metal roofing installations.
