One such complicated project is that of the metal roof installation. First and foremost, before beginning a roofing project, you should be aware of the local building codes, especially if you are trying to install a metal roof over shingles. However, some of the most common mistakes made when installing metal roof systems involve mathematical calculations.
- Improper measuring. Roofing requires exact measurements. Before even beginning to measure, you should take several pictures of your roof from different angles to use as a guide to making sure all sides and portions of the roof, including eaves, gables, windows, and chimneys are taken into account.
- Not factoring in roof pitch. To ensure that you have the right number of tiles and the proper of overlay for a metal roof installation, it is important to compensate for the angle of your roof in your calculations, which is referred to as pitch. The pitch is determined by multiplying how many vertical inches, called the rise, are extended for every 12 inches horizontally, called the run.
- Not converting measurements to tile size. Installing metal roofing is an expensive venture. Though metal tiles come in varying styles and sizes, they can range into hundreds of dollars per tile. In addition, once metal tiles are cut, it is not possible to correct any mistakes.
Mathematical mistakes can be costly when it comes to metal roof installation. When attempting this type of installation as a do it yourself project, you should make sure that all your measurements are correct at the onset; otherwise, the rest of your calculations will be off.
